NH Marine Debris to Energy Project

A New Hampshire-based project to study marine debris at sea and on the shore, incorporating waste-to-energy and recycling as part of cleanup efforts.

Whale Watch Debris Reports

Blue Ocean Society (BOS) researchers have been recording debris observed from whale watch boats off the New England coasts for over 20 years. Since then the boats have observed 30,827 pieces of trash. Whale watch boats involved in the research are:
  • Atlantic Queen (Rye, NH)
  • Granite State (Rye, NH)
  • Miss Cape Ann (Gloucester, MA)
  • Prince of Whales (Newburyport, MA)
  • Starfish (Hampton, NH)
This chart displays the number and types of debris recorded for all the boats over the past 20 years. To get a breakdown of debris by year and boat please click here!
